AAA my A**

I have all these amazing 3D games here. Games I have been drooling over for a loooooong time.
Breathtaking games. And there tons of games I have not that I would have killed...ehm...payed for not long ago.

What happend ? Besides my amazingly wiered fun to play outdated computer games ?

I found a game which immerses me right now more than anything else.

Terraria

Somebody thought : Let us combine elements of Super Mario on SNES, Ultima Online Crafting and Minecraft into 2D.

And it works. It's an indie an it has many negative sides. But actually it keeps me going, exploring, mining and researching.

So, I will make a break from taking older games apart in row right now, and I report back when my retro mission is finished.

Below here I post all my findings about Terraria.

Cutscenes with George Takei and Tim Curry ? Time for C&C Red Alert 3 !

I was hired by EA for a computer game !
Yeah. Everyone has played this game, maybe. Everyone but me.

I just have a vague memory of playing some C&C. And I remember I stoped when there appeared missions where you have to control single human units in a story driven environment, more specific in a bunker.

Good. Long its gone. I am positively thrilled by the change in cutscene quality, lol. So time for same base building and overdriven colors everywhere.

After going through the tutorials, I fear there is all done I want from this game. It's like a Pokemon for C&C fans, really neat to look upon, very imaginative extras for the units, and even humor that's okai. Well I am not sure I want more. Hmm.

I'm happy that you can use full HD. And I must say, it looks really great.
Well, I have still the visuals from C&C 1 and 2 before my eyes, that is.

And really, the real actor video gives the whole thing such a surrealistic (tex murphy-wing commander) atmosphere, it's dazzling.

Actually, I am interested in the story of the campaign. And this whole "Einstein never invented the Atom Bomb" thus we end up with three different forces with neat weapons and a good CD.

PayDay 1 - The heist - aka Lets get into THAT vault- Oh, Is that sexist ???

CURRENT RATING
FRUSTRATING

Since I am all up for CoOp at this time (even with ppl after 1995) I got myself PayDay 1 - The Heist for 1,49 on Steam.

I always try to start a series with its first appearance, so hmm. And I made a good xp, the PhysX installer recognized that there was a newer version of it installed ! *fireworks*

The start music was decent. Less decent was that the first thing the program showed me was a BIG ADVERTISMENT for a DLC, even in the main menu.

Well, what the hell. Lets go looking for some criminals online to rob a bank. Or two.

Battle Field 4 Campaign - Champagne for the Style, But Linear is Algebra thats gone bad

Wow. Everything so big, still fu*king stupid linear, but wow SO BIG.

And wow. That destruction. WOW. WTF. WOW. BOOM. BANG. CUT LEG. BOOM.

But still, I really have to tune into that Why Bad Company 2 was so great article here. (even besides the fact that it was -linear-)

I made it into 15 minutes of the BF4 campaign. Then I turned it off.
And made a break. And still wonder what I play next. To burn it here.

Somebody whispered to me I really should try Titanfall for 48h for free on Origin.
It would be very good, really nice teamwork, really dynamic missions.
The idea of EA to start with the 48h when you install it, is by the way, EPIC PR GOLD.

3 x Far Cry. Far. Far. Far. Cry. Summer Sale, you make my cry. Let's try the Cry of Ubisoft, maybe its Ubihard or Ubiswollen ?

UPDATE: I played the whole single player campaign.
Actually a lot of fun, but the moral of it is strange.

 Original text

First off all, I am noticing that I am no longer so much into Single Player campaigns. I think after enjoying them too much in other games, I'm just burned out when it comes to SP Campaigns.

I love playing Co-Op campaigns/missions. I noticed that in BF3.

And perhaps the minor fact that I played only CoOp since OFP thus since 2002 in good clans. But I always enjoyed a good SPC in a FPS.

So I was quite happy to see that FC3 had a CoOp Mode. Trying it before playing the SPC, I hoped to spare me the time of stupid AI and foreseeable story lines. Sadly UPLAY and FC3 seem to be buggy.

TWOT - Female half-vampire, Nazis, Monsters, Big Boobies (Term inspired to use by PeePeeDie) but with Brain and Fangs - My Sunday is SAVE TO WASTE !

CURRENT RATING

FUNNY
FRUSTRATING

Since I am, as it seems, trying out new genres (last time I played a Wild West Game and actually enjoyed most of it) so suddenly I had the urge to learn something about a game from 2002.

Its called BloodRayne. Well I am conditioned to (and I DO) hate Nazis.

By the way :  We do a slight exception from our "NO ZOMBIE BLOG" rule. Primarly cause Zombies arent really the focus here and only important in a part of the game. (And the zombies ? are shooting with guns so technically they are no zombies right)

So. Yes, and I love strong female characters (mostly, not the kyle's mother type though).

And since everybody is shouting about Ubisoft removing female assassins, I though, hey ten years ago there actually was (next to Lara Croft of course, who is as we all know just a female Indiana Jones) a female *DARK* hero.

Wild Wild West - Or how one thing lead to another and now I am trying WWW Shooters ?!

CURRENT RATING
FUNNY

Steam Sale. Nevertheless the steam sale game is a pure brilliant *cliche on* women money on shoes *cliche off*.
unimaginative rip off, I enjoy spending little money on games like

And since the twitch stream of humble bundle yesterday involved a WWW game, I thought ey, I never actually played a WWW FPS !!

And the advantage of a FPS, it can be played with Keyboard/Mouse.

So I bought Call of Juarez Gunslinger.

Despite the name and the fact that I know NOTHING about this game OR the developers, I was curious. Good ol'Ubisoft as publisher and an Engine I never heard of plus a wild wild west setting. OK. Well, first thing was the game needed only 3.8 gb. 3.8gb for a full flechted FPS ? OK ?!?!

Well I write this here being untouched about this game, so lets go. *reloads his colt*

Twitching humble bees and stylish cowboys

Today there was the first Humble Bundle Live Stream on Twitch. Some of the employees of the sympathetic media product selling company with a charity flair were sitting in front of a camera and played a really good looking western arcade action game, called Secret Ponchos.

Even one of the main devs was there giving some answers. I write about cause the game reaalllly looks good (in my taste at least) especially for an indie that is (since Sony is behind is WAS ?)! And cause the Humble Bundle Show was ... interesting.

Well some facts : The game developing crew is working in their cellars and decentralized, they are using Sony's House Engine PhyreEngine, their Lead Artist worked for Batman the Animated Movie, they have 3 full time artists and some freelancing, they nearly got bankrupt before Sony spotted them on this big games convention in 2013, they working on that jewel since 4 1/2 YEARS !!!

I can not say anything specific about the Humble Bundle work force. They seem to have decent offices !

TWOT - From Wizardy Six to Legend of Grimrock

RATING FOR LEGEND OF GRIMORE

Its time for another TWOT entry ! ( TWOT = Total Waste of Time => If you think that playing oldschool games is a waste of time when there actually are modern games you can play that is )

When I was young (Song Title off) I enjoyed titles like Wizardry 6. Even if I understood only half of it. ( I mean I should but for some reasons I finished the titles without any Internet walk through or stuff so hmm. How I did that ? No CLUE)

So recently I bought it in a GOG sale, more for the "Hey I have it again and this time not on floppy disk" factor. But I installed it and got caught in the absolute postmodern mix style of it.

It was like all stuff mixed together, I mean Hobbits, Star Wars Like Monsters, and so on. And the good old "Write Once, Double Reality" idea in a abandoned castle. Me likes !!!!

I even got a decent tool to map the dungeons. I read the manual ! I was ready. Then I made my fist party with a lot of care and got killed by 1 vampire bat and 6 bats. Then I realized : This is hard work. And the graphics were so EGA that even I felt my eyes bleed out. (I grew up with Hercules/CGA so I am USED TO A LOT).

But...the "walk a step turn left walk again one step" caught me.

Seeking for a comprise, I remembered Legend of Grimore and since it had already a layer of dust on it, it was time to open my GOG chest and install it.

Tales from an Island, with a lot of legendary characters, a lot of Monkeys and a UI Interface where you think a 3-year old did it.

CURRENT RATING AFTER 1 OF 5 CHAPTERS
FUNNY

Time for another interesting sequel from the last century...eh decade..In 2009 TTG brought this little gem out, in a time when Lucasarts wasn't gulped by a cartoon character with two big black circles on its head.

When I heard the title music, all was lost. Yes, this song kills me ever since I spend my time click'n'riddling through a subuniverse the first time.

So I was really thrilled to get it cheap on GoG. For some reason I wasn't into the 3D Style of it, so I wasn't willing to pay more than five bugs for it. Honestly. Lets be a pirate, arghh matey !

World in Conflict - Well isnt that a neat title (esp. for 2007 ?!) - Another DRM and DirectX 9 Voyage

CURRENT RATING AFTER SIX MISSIONS

Time for another fantastic sale for 2,99 on Little Green Man Gaming (or something like that).

Of course I noticed this game back in 2007 due to my general interest in war tactic RTS games and its amazingly iconic title. So now its time to feel it without any risk. Except its trash from another decade.

First thing that gives me the creeps is that first you download it on UPlay and THEN you have to install it via good old installer. Well fine, only English, French (Standard ?) and Spanish well no problem.

Okai after having to scroll down the agreement thing to be able to click on "Agree" (yikes) I am about to see a game...ah a world in conflict. Lets move on.

Sleeping Dogs dont byte and dont watch - Who woke the dogs up ?

So I got myself the demo for Sleeping Dogs. On Steam.

I am not GTA !!!

First time I launched it it asked my things like Screen Brightness and UI Zoom Parameter. Very nice.

Then a stylish loading screen with a neat Chinese trip hop style beat pops up. First impression. Ok. Could be something. If only the Logo wouldn't be some kind of a GTA reminder, but well, lets have a look.

Yeah. OK. That's Chinese GTA style. Even the radar calls for GTA at once. But noooo...I haven't stolen any cars yet, I am only supposed to show some jerk where the boss is. OK. Let's GO.

Amazing Ubisoft Fairy Tale - Child of Light - Damn I bought it

My impression after playing it through :

Ever wonder what happened if a water color artist makes a rpg game ?

Well, wonder no more, go and play Child of Light. At first I thought, well what is this, of course the demo version is as it seems usual far from explaining any story, this is crap, I thought at first.

But then I entered some well in a village where drunken raven where the only sign of life with a dwarf mage and I must say, the fighting and the whole atmosphere is just ... relaxing and at the same time affecting ! (and the superb music...)

Yet another game publisher store *sights* - A Store installing a store.

Yet another game publisher store *sights*

Okay now I have
  1. Steam
  2. Origin
  3. Nexon
  4. ...those I forgot...
And now Steam installed Ubisofts uplay.
A Store installing a store.
WTF.

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure - Demo

Right. I cant believe this game came out in 2014. It was made from Big Finish Games

I'm currently playing the demo, and while it is somehow strange, it also is a nice diversion from other games.

It has everything most other current games has not : Old School Graphics, Old School Riddles, Old School Wing Commander Blue Screen Real Humans Actor Movies, Old School Humor.

For some reason this is even relaxing. Until you cant solve the next riddle. Then it gets freakingly depressing.

More after (if) I finished the demo. Currently I cant find a grabber I need to pull a screw driver out of a toxic river.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Bundle

Giana Sisters : Twisted Bundle is a realllllly nice jump and run from Germany. (Its also very near to where I was born and more or less raised). Yes, it was published in 2012, but I got it from a
recent Humble Bundle, so hmm. But I noticed it two years ago, even as a non Jump'n'Runner.

The studio is called Black Forest Studio and they did an awesome job using the Havoc Engine to breathe life into the Giana Sisters classic iconic name.

From

To

I'm really not a big jump and run fan, but once I started to play the modern giana sisters, I was hooked up on it for several hours. The twist is this changing landscape, you switch between the two sisters and the WHOLE background changes from neat to horror and vice versa.

Always gets my spirit up - BF1942 Theme

There is one tune of a computer game, that actually still after 12 years, gets my spirit up most of the time I hear it. Or at least I know when I can use it for that.

Its the title theme for the neat designed intro of Battlefield 1942.

The theme was written by Joel Eriksson. One of the things I needed to do before my hmm car accident ? or whatever kills me was thanking him for that tune. I did, he thanked me for thanking him. Check.

Today Mr. Eriksson has a nice company and an awesome looking studio and is working mostly for the big companys advertisment industry, and as far as I can hear, he know his stuff.

Thank you Mr.Eriksson !
