TWOT - Female half-vampire, Nazis, Monsters, Big Boobies (Term inspired to use by PeePeeDie) but with Brain and Fangs - My Sunday is SAVE TO WASTE !

FRUSTRATING

Since I am, as it seems, trying out new genres (last time I played a Wild West Game and actually enjoyed most of it) so suddenly I had the urge to learn something about a game from 2002.

Its called BloodRayne. Well I am conditioned to (and I DO) hate Nazis.

By the way :  We do a slight exception from our "NO ZOMBIE BLOG" rule. Primarly cause Zombies arent really the focus here and only important in a part of the game. (And the zombies ? are shooting with guns so technically they are no zombies right)

So. Yes, and I love strong female characters (mostly, not the kyle's mother type though).

And since everybody is shouting about Ubisoft removing female assassins, I though, hey ten years ago there actually was (next to Lara Croft of course, who is as we all know just a female Indiana Jones) a female *DARK* hero.

Well even mostly made for consoles, I was curious what the dark layout of this oldie was having in stock for me.

So I bought it for, (thanks GoG), 1.29 on GoG (I would so hope that some of the creative ppl behind it get some money from that, not only the copy right holders, sighs) and installed it. Something about 1.6 gb.

Initial Impression: The heroine was sympathetic at once. The story mysterious. The graphic well, its 2003 ,baby, so well yes. But always remember : Bad, or should I say, simple ?!, Graphics left something for the imagination !!! (remember kids, once upon a time you actually had to use your BRAIN to produce high-res graphics)

The moves are ok, its a 3rd person shooter, not a FPS, that's well, since Dead Space I am OK with that. More or less. Well it made me hate Dead Space, but thats another story. Funny is, the game reminds me a bit of Dead Space. The monsters have a astonishing similarity!!!

Really at first ehm "cool?" and kinda ehm "kinda" sexy...ehm perverted...ugly...smelly...I don't know...is the fact that you can JUMP the human AS WELL AS *yikes* zombie enemies and EAT THEM to get energy. And the sounds are like from a cheap porno, so UHM

The aiming with weapons is terrible, they seem to have forgotten the cross hair. Ah no. Aiming is done by itself. The weapons seem just to have no effect. Aha.

BUT:  The jumping is awesome. The real jumping. Not the jumping of the weapon using zombies.

TODO: I have to look for some patch or mod or at least turn of the AA through the nvidia tool. Sadly i can only use 1024x800 or the game crashes. Hmm. Have to research that.

It seems there is NO way to enhance the resolution or the textures. There is no patch, no cfg value you can set without having the GUI **** up. Sad. More sad is that the developer TRI is out of business. So no help there either.

If you turn on high AA and PostProcessing via application settings of (in my case Nvidia) your grafx card it actually makes the game look a lot better.

Fun Facts you didnt know about half-vampires :
  • They are allergic to water :-)
  • They are not "hypersensitive" to religious symbols
Gameplay Update #2

Okaiii. So the level so far are repetitious. You do the same thing In the same environment over and over. The monsters are the same. The "puzzles" are the same. Well that all would be acceptable (for a while). But once I did the first of the levels that is a bit more complex, I was told to go to next area.

I followed the radar and it lead me into water. Good, I thought, prolly I will find a thing
to jump on there, all it takes now is a leap of faith. Well WTF I DIED in the water.

Okai I thought, now what. I didn't saved. So I pressed CONTINUE and ... yes, I started at
the beginning of the level and nothing war done. Thank you, but no thank you.

I now need a break of this game. I will continue it sometime. But right now I need a break. This is such a nice idea and setting, but it seems its really lousy designed. Or was it in 2003 every game on consoles like this ? Ponder....
